Leknika - Dresden

130 km

21 June 2023

I headed inland west in to Germany from the Oder in the direction of Dresden.  Following the Oder further south it becomes very windy and complicated, so I will cross over to the Elbe (Labe when it passes in to the Czech Republic) and go on from Dresden to Prague.  Going across country from one river to the other means hills, which I’ve not been used to as I’ve been following the river so far.  So, today’s ride was a little harder than I expected, but at least for the most part I was on decent German roads with bike paths.

I like Dresden.  The Florence of the North.  Hugely damaged in the war, but mostly sensitively and carefully restored these days.

My hotel was very brisk and German, probably an old East German era hotel, concrete and unfussy, but very comfortable.  They even had power points for recharging electric bikes in the garage.  There was a group of Italian cyclists, all lycra and the latest gear and looking the part, but riding electric bikes.  The two images didn't really fit.  But, that's the Italians for you, all the latest fashionable gear and technology.

Accommodation:  Night of 21st June - Ringhotel Rezidenz Alt Dresden
