Week 1 
19 -26 August 

A long anticipated trip to the USA to ride the transcontinental Great American Rail Trail (GART) route in September and October did not materialise, for all sorts of reasons.  I’ll think about it for next year or the year after, hopefully in company.  After that I think I will be past it for such an exacting trip ! .So, in lieu of GART, I’ve planned a trip  through France and Spain, north to south, staring at the Normandy Beaches and paying a passing nod to the Allied troops and French Partisans and civilians who were all part of the endeavour...READ MORE...

Week 2 
27 August - 7 Sept

The second week of my trip thorugh France and Spain saw me heading towards The Pyrenees and then through the northern part of Spain towards Madrid, where I would pause for a few days of rest and R&R.  The highlight of these last days has been moutains and climbs, but also not great weather, with a weather front of rain and wind coming in from the west across most of northern Spain and The Pyrenees.  So, not exactly camping weather ! ..READ MORE...

 The third week of my trip, through Madrid and on south west across ranges of Sierras to Cordoba.  The weather has been beautiful, sunny, a little wind, and just perfect for my cycling tour. READ MORE...

16 Sept - 20 Sept

I thoroughly enjoyed Cordoba, a nice city, full of interesting history, and lovely to wander about.  Good food as well.  I’d found a marvellous AirBnB which was very civilised and quiet, set in a courtyard off the street. I will be back one day.  The general trend of my ride today was roughly downhill from Cordoba, but the last 15 miles or so were very definitely uphill to Carmona, which is set on a bluff above the valleys it commands.  Also, the wind wasn’t helpful to me today, and there is nothing worse than going up a along, interminable, incline with the wind in your face, which is what happened for the last couple of hours in to Carmona.READ MORE...
